Question
3: What is the Septuagint?
Answer: The
Septuagint (Greek – seventy) is the Greek version of the Old Testament, so
called because it was believed to have been sanctioned by the seventy leaders of
the Sanhedrin in Jerusalem, or because according to tradition, seventy-two men
were employed in the translation. It was probably made in the third century BC.
There are three hundred translations in the New Testament from the Septuagint
and it contains the same books that are in the OT canon used by the Catholic
Church.
